Happy New Year everyone! I can’t believe it is already here.
I wanted to start out in 2019 with something (hopefully lol) extremely helpful and sought after.
I’m coming up on my one year anniversary of this blog. CRAZY.
It literally seems like yesterday and that day is perfectly stuck in my mind even now. It was a big decision. But let me tell you, I’m so glad I made it.
So, this year we are starting off with a complete guide to help you take the leap and start your own blog and journey this year.
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. This means that if you click the link and/or make a purchase, I receive a commission. Don’t worry, this is at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support! ♡
So before we get started, I want you to know that this tutorial is centered around using the hosting that I personally use and recommend.
GoDaddy hosting will provide you with your own domain that you actually pay for and own, not a free, restricted blogging platform.
If you are serious about blogging, this is the route you will want to take. It will allow you to be independent, have complete control and no limits, and look legitimate as a serious blogger.
Especially if you plan to monetize, this is what you need to do.
Free blogging platforms don’t offer these same qualities and will just cost you time and effort when you probably will decide to switch to your own hosting. So trust me, just go
This link takes you directly to the page where you can choose an option of hosting for just $2.49 per month!
GoDaddy’s affordable prices were actually what allowed me to start this journey in the first place.
I contemplated it for A LONG TIME. Looked at many options, and when I found them, the decision was clear to me.
Don’t worry about the dependability or service either, as I have had the very best experience with them even from the start.
You can choose the Economy option (like I did) or whatever other option you want.
There are also other options in addition to these ones pictured, but these are the basics.
This order will also get you a free domain!
You can set this right away at the next step or think it over and wait until later.
Then, you will find yourself at the checkout menu!
You are almost done.
This is showing with the Economy option chosen (giving you the lowest of the prices).
It defaults to the 12-month option, but if you want to lock in this low price for even longer, you can! (Or less time too if needed)
As you will see, along with a free domain name, you get a whole year of Office 365 Starter email for free. Just another awesome addition!
So many people (like myself) wonder if there are any extras you should purchase along with it.
Honestly, there are many additions you can choose such as marketing services, other Office 365 programs, website backup, and more, but the ones I would recommend most (AT THE LEAST and that I use personally) are domain privacy and an SSL Certificate.
Domain privacy basically hides your personal information associated with your website like your real name, address, phone number, etc.
SSL Certificates secure your website, display a security seal (and eliminates the “unsecure” message that pops up on websites without it), and boosts Google search rankings.
I purchased domain privacy right from the start, but I did wait quite a while before purchasing an SSL certificate. I completely regret that as my traffic exploded after I got mine.
Trust me, it’s worth it.
Many people don’t want to visit unsecured sites, so it makes sense.
Just do it from the beginning if possible!
After this, the last step of setup is just to install WordPress and get started.
WordPress is an excellent option since it is free and incredibly easy to navigate/use.
It’s so popular as over 60 million people have chosen it for their website. Including me!
To get to your WordPress dashboard after making your purchase, simply go to your My Hosting page > click on your site name > the blue cPanel Admin button
This will take you to your cPanel admin. From here, scroll down until you get to Web Applications.
Click on My Blog with the Wordpress symbol.
This will take you right to your WordPress dashboard! This is where the magic will happen.
From here you can make your first post (Click the Posts tab for this), add media (like photos, videos), customize the appearance/theme, and basically start creating the blog of your dreams.
So there you have it. You should be all ready to get started on your own journey!
When the time is right for you, you may want to start promoting your blog and bringing in traffic.
